Darren Smart

Financial Planner

Office:

Nottingham

Darren joined Perspective in early 2026, bringing decades of experience and a deep commitment to client relationships. His career began straight out of college with Barclays, before moving to HSBC in 1999 as a Mortgage Manager, where he qualified as a Financial Advisor. Over the next 15 years, Darren advised high-net-worth clients, building a reputation for trust and expertise, before establishing his own practice.

In 2016, Darren joined Cockburn Lucas, integrating his clients into their proposition. He also spent 18 months on secondment at HSBC, leading a Risk Profiling and Goal-Based Planning project, further enhancing his strategic insight.

Darren’s role today focuses on long-standing client relationships, many spanning over 20 years. He is passionate about intergenerational planning, helping great-grandparents, grandparents, parents, and now their children achieve financial security and confidence. What Darren enjoys most is the face-to-face interaction—being a trusted voice in a world full of noise.

Outside of work, Darren is a keen sports enthusiast. Having played football to a high standard, he now enjoys walking football and golf. A highlight was representing Nottingham Forest last year—albeit 35 years after his dream call-up!
